Let us Get Munching

Have you ever wondered too why we crave to munch and we say ” I feel like eating …..” feeling is for the heart but it’s our brain that tells us what to eat. Its all due to hormone imbalances that occur daily. Sometimes we eat for pleasure, to reward ourselves & to overcome certain emotions.

Anyone even me crave to eat foodstuff that’s rich in carbohydrates and am a big fan of potato, cheese, chocolates, desserts yummmmm. So basically we feel like eating anything sweet, sour & spicy. The good news is there are healthy options to satisfy this craving of ours.
So here are my suggestions and some favorites for our “tea time” :

Whole wheat/multi-grain: Tea and toast go hand in hand why not make it healthy by using whole grain bread or whole wheat bread, crackers or biscuits. whole grains are high in fiber, antioxidants, polyphenols, magnesium, iron, zinc & proteins.

Nut butter : Now as we all know a good toast is served with loads of butter on it and yes we might use some healthy alternatives for our regular butter made from nuts like almond, peanut, pistachio, hazelnut, cashew nut or any nut of your choice pick it up from store or whip your own. why choose them because they are nutrient-dense filled with lots of good fats, cholesterol-free, high in protein & antioxidant-rich.

Sunflower seeds: A crunchy nutty can also be buttery, Eaten as a snack roasted with salt and condiments, added to cereals, parfaits, salads or make a delicious sunflower butter. Spread it on toast or rice cakes. An excellent source of Vitamin E (234% of Daily Value), dietary fiber, dietary minerals – zinc, magnesium, iron, and phosphorus.

Homemade granola bars: A very easy and quick recipe to make with almost everything available. oats, almonds, seeds, dry fruits, dried coconut, honey, and some nut butter to keep things bound voila a yummy healthy snack.

Fox nuts/ lotus seeds/makhana: Lotus seeds or makhana as they are called in India is a very light, fluffy, crunchy to bite and tasty as well. one might wonder how suddenly they are all over the internet but let me tell you these seeds are being used in India from a very long time often used as an offering to God and by some during fasting as its an excellent source of protein, low in carbohydrates, a good source of minerals.

Legumes: Chickpeas are the oldest legumes known to mankind its been used in almost all types of cuisines. Any legume like kidney beans (rajma), peas, fava beans, soya bean and many more. either boil, bake or roast them add some flavoring and they are ready to eat. High in protein, low in fat, high in fiber, a good source of minerals & vitamins and low in carbohydrate,
